Hyderabad: The Telangana chief minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to commemorate the 125 anniversary of B.R Ambedkar with a 125 feet statue of the stalwart, in Hyderabad.
Acclaimed to be world’s tallest Ambedkar statue, KCR has directed his officials to work briskly to have it ready by April 14, 2017, the day that marks the 125th anniversary.
The CM constituted a special committee under Kadiam Srihari to identify a suitable location, to be known as Ambedkar Square, for the statue in the city. Year long celebrations are to be held on a grand scale to mark the anniversary.
KCR met with his ministers and officials at the camp office to review the arrangements that are to be made for the celebrations. The officials were told to plan special programmes in all the districts, each month.
The statue, which is claimed to be the tallest in the world is estimated to cost around 25 crores. The CM has also directed his ministers and officials to take up the distribution of free 3-acre-farm land for dalits as part of the celebrations.
